Onam

What:

Onam is a large festival in the state of Kerala, in South India. It celebrates the mythical annual homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali to his people. As the festival coincides with the harvest, it celebrates not only the love of the people for its king, but also the celebration of the fruits of the Earth.

There will be lots of South Indian vegetarian and vegan food, as well as music, lights, and merriment.

While enjoying a traditional Onam meal together, we'll learn about the mythology and cultural tradition, how its celebrated by different people. Afterwards, we'll see who can make the best floral arrangments, put on a saree in record time, as well as a kaili ( lungi). We'll have a bit of friendly competition in the spirit of Onam,by trying our best at making songs for a Snake Boat Race.

All in the Mayer Playroom.
