With the end of the fall semester approaching, the fall intramural season concluded with volleyball playoffs. In the end, our teams showed a lot of heart and demonstrated why Stouffer continues to dominate the College House leagues.

Starting with male competitive volleyball, the Stouffer Men, began their playoff run with a huge win against the Fisher Fire and went on to face off against the Gregory Warriors. That match was an incredibly close one and will probably be inducted in the pantheon of great Stouffer triumphs. After splitting the first two games, the Stouffer Men found themselves down 14-7 in the 15-point tiebreaker when Chase "Servin" Irwin served up 9 straight points and won the game outright. Just an unbelieveable performance. Unfortunately, we lost the Championship against the Ware Sexy Beasts but I still think everyone felt pretty good about our tournament run.

Male Comp Volleyball: (#4) Stouffer Men d. (#5) Fisher Fire (for)
Male Comp Volleyball: (#4) Stouffer Men d. (#1) Gregory Warriors (30-28, 24-26, 16-14)
Male Comp Volleyball: (#2) Ware Sexy Beasts d. (#4) Stouffer Men (25-16, 25-18)

One of our female competitive volleyball teams, the Stouffer Pandas, won their first playoff game against Los Borrachones by default and went on to play against the number 1 seeded Los Cucarachas. They played a tough match but narrowly lost each game but just a couple points. Still, the team had a great season and represented us well in the College House Women's league.

Female Comp Volleyball: (#4) Stouffer Pandas d. (#5) Los Borrachones (for)
Female Comp Volleyball: (#1) Los Cucarachas d. (#4) Stouffer Pandas (25-22, 25-23)

Our other female competitive volleyball team, the Stouffer Storm, began the playoffs by trouncing the Ware Hit Face without any problems. Having narrowly beaten the Stouffer Pandas and facing almost-certain embarassment at the hands of the Stouffer Storm, Los Cucarachas did the only thing they could and bowed out of the tournament. So the Stouffer Storm won the College House Women's Championship by forfeit. Congrats to them for an oustanding performance all semester long!

Female Comp Volleyball: (#2) Stouffer Storm d. (#3) Ware Hit Face (25-10, 25-12)
Female Comp Volleyball: (#2) Stouffer Storm d. (#1) Los Cucarachas (for)

That basically wraps things up for intramurals this semester. We won 3 College House Championships and current standings in the College House Cup will be updated shortly but I have a feeling that we're doing pretty well. Intramural basketball sign-ups have started up and games will begin early in the spring semester so please be sure to sign up and let's make sure that the Stouffer train keeps on running!

Welcome back to Stouffer House and intramural sports! We've had a busy couple weeks and some more games this week so I thought I'd e-mail out with one of my usual digests.

To begin, flag football playoffs began and ended several weeks ago. Our male competitive football team, the Stouffer Spartans, came up with a solid win in the first round of the playoffs but suffered a tough loss in the second round:

Male Comp Flag Football: (#3) Stouffer Spartans d. (#14) Barry Bonds (10-0)
Male Comp Flag Football: (#11) Harrison Angry Chims d. (#3) Stouffer Spartans (20-14)

Our other male competitive football team, the Stouffer Frozen Dinners, put together two strong performances to defeat the #9 and #1 seeded teams but had a tough time with the #4 seeded Ware Bombs:

Male Comp Flag Football: (#8) Stouffer Frozen Dinners d. (#9) Riepe Big Money (8-0)
Male Comp Flag Football: (#8) Stouffer Frozen Dinners d. (#1) Los Borrachos (8-0)
Male Comp Flag Football: (#4) Ware Bombs d. (#8) Stouffer (13-0)

Unfortunately, those two losses ended our hopes in male competitive flag football, which makes this the first year in which we didn't claim either 1st or 2nd place. However, we redeemed ourselves through co-rec flag football with two strong wins against two inferior teams:

Co-Rec Flag Football: (#1) Stouffer Stars d. (#4) MB3 (27-0)
Co-Rec Flag Football: (#1) Stouffer Stars d. (#2) Harrison Co-Rec Chimps (for)

This clinched the co-rec flag football championship for the Stouffer Stars and we would have advanced to a play-in game for the City 6 Championship if not for an administrative error on the part of Penn Rec. I'm admitting no fault in this one, people.

Moving on, the intramural volleyball season came to a close last week and all our teams strung together some fairly impressive performances. Our male competitive volleyball team, the Stouffer Men (creative name, I know), came up with 2 wins that brought their record to 2-2 and ensured them a spot in the playoffs:

Male Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Men d. Ware Sexy Beasts (25-21, 22-25, 17-15)
Male Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Men d. Gregory Warriors (26-24, 25-20)
Male Comp Volleyball: Riepe Big Money d. Stouffer Men (3-25, 25-19, 11-15)

One of our female competitive volleyball teams, the Stouffer Storm, won their last three games of the season and and heads into the playoffs as a #2 seed with a 4-1 record:

Female Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Storm d. Stouffer Pandas (25-20, 25-18)
Female Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Storm d. Riepe Riepes (for)
Female Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Storm d. Los Borrachones (25-20, 21-25, 15-2)

Our other female competitive volleyball team, the Stouffer Pandas, had a tougher time during their last few games but still managed to string together a 3-3 record, which makes them a #4 seed in the playoffs:

Female Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Storm d. Stouffer Pandas (25-20, 25-18)
Female Comp Volleyball: Ware Las Cucarachas d. Stouffer Pandas (18-25, 15-25)
Female Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Pandas d. KCECH Aces (for)

Intramural volleyball playoffs begin tonight for all our teams. You should have all received e-mails from your team captains with the relevant info but I've copied the details below as well. Please do your best to attend and help ensure that Stouffer represents!

It's been a crazy few weeks for Stouffer intramurals and the next two weeks are looking even busier. So I'm going to have to keep the commentary short in order to stay under the 5,000 word limit that I've been given for intramural updates.

Our male competitive football team, the Stouffer Spartans, improved their record to 3-0-1 with a tie against the Eastsidaz and a win (by forfeit) against The Fisher Fire. With that record, the Stouffer Spartans are seeded third in the playoffs so you should expect big things out of them.

Male Comp Flag Football: Stouffer Spartans tie Eastsidaz (7-7)
Male Comp Flag Football: Stouffer Spartans d. The Fisher Fire (for)

Unfortunately, all the rain two weeks ago prevented our other male competitive football team, the Stouffer Frozen Dinners, and our co-rec football team, the Stouffer Stars, from playing their last games of the season. Still, the Frozen Dinners' 2-1 record guaranteed them a spot in the playoffs as an eighth seed and the Stars' 3-0 record made them the first seed in the co-rec tournament. So all our flag football teams are officially in the playoffs, which start on Monday.

Volleyball games started up a couple weeks ago and one of our female competitive volleyball teams, the Stouffer Pandas, started off the season on a strong note with a couple of solid wins but unfortunately dropped a game last Wednesday. Now they're out for revenge so look for them to improve upon their 2-1 record.

Female Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Pandas d. Los Borrachones (25-20, 25-22)
Female Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Pandas d. Ware Hit-Face (25-8, 25-11)
Female Comp Volleyball: Riepe Riepes d. Stouffer Pandas (25-21, 25-15)

Our other female competitive volleyball team, the Stouffer Storm, earned a big victory in their first game but unfortunately forfeited in their second. In spite of their 1-1 record, they are a force to be reckoned with so you should be on the lookout for them.

Female Comp Volleyball: Stouffer Storm d. KCECH Aces (25-20, 26-24)
Female Comp Volleyball: Ware Hit-Face d. Stouffer Storm (for)

Finally, our male competitive volleyball team, the Stouffer Men, also had a rough start to the season and lost their first game. I think the 0-1 record has definitely lit a fire under their butts so I wouldn't want to be any other opponent in their path.

Male Comp Volleyball: Fisher Fire d. Stouffer Men (25-23, 25-22)

I think that basically covers it. As I mentioned, flag football playoffs start on Monday and I've copied the schedules below. Both male competitive teams play tomorrow night and then Wednesday night if they win. Co-rec football doesn't start until next week (11/12). I can smell some Championships on the horizon so let's get pumped!

It's time for yet another intramural update. For you Wharton types (including myself), here's the Executive Summary:

- Stouffer won all of its games this week and humiliated its opponents in the process.

For the rest of you, here's the more detailed description:

One of our male competitive football teams, the Stouffer Spartans, was supposed to have faced off against the KCECH Blitz but the Blitz chickened out and sent only one guy down to the field. So the Spartans beat him 184-0 and improved their record to 2-0.

Male Comp Flag Football: Stouffer Spartans d. KCECH Blitz (for)

Seeking to avenge this act of disrespect, our co-rec football team, the Stouffer Stars, faced off against their co-rec football team, the KCECH Krimos. Down 14-7 at the half, our team regrouped at halftime and ended up making a complete comeback, improving their record to 3-0.

Co-Rec Flag Football: Stouffer Stars d. KCECH Krimos (25-22)

Finally, our other male competitive football team, the Stouffer Frozen Dinner, faced off against the Harrison Angry Chimps this week. Although some commentators were concerned that the Frozen Dinners might be a little rusty coming off the heels of Fall Break, the Frozen Dinners ran up the score just to prove their critics wrong, improving their record to 2-1.

Male Comp Flag Football: Stouffer Frozen Dinners d. Harrison Angry Chimps (28-6)

And in one of the most impressive come-from-behind performances that Stouffer's assembled in some time, our co-rec softball team, the Stouffer Corner Bistro, found itself in the loser's bracket of the College House tournament. To win the tournament, they'd have to win three consecutive games which included two victories against the Fisher/Riepe Knights, a team that had beaten them by a score of 11-3 in their previous match-up. The result?

Co-Rec Softball: Stouffer Corner Bistro d. KCECH Swingers (for)
Co-Rec Softball: Stouffer Corner Bistro d. Fisher/Riepe Knights (11-7)
Co-Rec Softball: Stouffer Corner Bistro d. Fisher/Riepe Knights (16-3)

Congrats to the Stouffer Corner Bistro for being our first team to win an intramural championship! A intramural t-shirt will be going up on the 6th floor hallway to represent the victory. Last year, we had 5 hanging by the end of the year so I'm hoping to beat that record this year.

That's it for now. For those that signed up for intramural volleyball, we should be getting those schedules any day now so stay tuned!

Subject: Intramural Update
Date: Saturday, October 06, 2007 6:07 PM

Intramural sports are back in season and with it comes fresh new installments of the Intramural Newsletter. For those who haven't lived in Stouffer before, I occasionally send out e-mails over the Stouffer listserv that allegedly summarize our recent performance in intramurals but essentially make fun of Penn Rec, the referees, and all other houses. For those that have lived in Stouffer before, you should know that I'm not going to be able to make my newsletters as long-winded as they have been in the past because I'm spending a bit more spare time working on that pesky dissertation. Most of you are probably celebrating right now. Without further ado, here's the first update.

Our perrenial male competitive football team, the Stouffer Frozen Dinners, had somewhat of a mixed start to the seaon. In their first game, they barely edged our Hamilton Village on the heels of an MVP performance by "The Refrigerator" Perry Clarkson (2 TD, 1 INT). But in their second game - without their usual quarterback (Bobak "bparang@sas" Parang) - they suffered an unexpected loss at the hands of Ware. Please feel free to e-mail Bobak and remind him that he cost us the game. Of course, both opposing teams exhibited a really balanced offense by running a combined total of 2 passing plays and 96 running plays. Expect Coach Ben "Parcells" Taylor to make adjustments during their off week and come back next week firing on all cylinders.

Male Comp Flag Football: Stouffer Frozen Dinners d. Hamilton Village (27-24)
Male Comp Flag Football: Ware d. Stouffer Frozen Dinners (14-0)

Our new male competitive football team, the Stouffer Spartans, had a bye during the first week of play and Coach Chris "Leonidas" Setian organized roughly 20 practices for the team during that time. But the practices paid off during their first game as the Spartans' unstoppable defense controlled the game. The opposing team's first two plays resulted in their QB having a 100% competion percentage...to our team. The Spartans went up early in the game and, in spite of borrowing heavily from the Herm Edwards School of Clock Management, they held on in the end for their first win. Look for this ragtag team to turn a lot of heads on their way to playoffs.

Male Comp Flag Football: Stouffer Spartans d. Rough Riders (19-13)

Our co-rec football team showed the rest of the league why we're the defending champions by first beating a team called MB3 in a close game that came down to a botched field goal and then a quick turn-around touchdown on the cannon-like arm of Andrea "Ajax" Jackson. They went on to smoke Ware College House, who can't really be faulted for the fact that they weren't terribly familiar with the rules governing male/female passing, offsides, forward passing, and flag guarding. I'm not entirely sure that we completed any plays as opposed to just scoring on 5- and 10-yard penalties incurred by the other team throughout the game. Either way, it's a win and we'll take it.

Co-Rec Flag Football: Stouffer Stars d. MB3 (21-14)
Co-Rec Flag Football: Stouffer Stars d. Ware College House (15-0)

Finally, our co-rec softball team, the Stouffer Corner Bistro, played its first games last weekend and had a largely successful start to the double-elimination tournament. After being forfeited to by Zorro's Fury and having their game against the KCECH Swingers called by the mercy rule in the sixth inning, they suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Fisher/Riepe/Other Quad Houses That Can't Form A Complete Team Knights. The good news is that the tournament continues tomorrow and we'll get to seek our revenge against the KCECH Swingers and Fisher/Riepe Knights. It's potentially a triple-header so please e-mail Captain Matt "Steelers" Lentz if you can make it.

Co-Rec Softball: Stouffer Corner Bistro d. Zorro's Fury (for)
Co-Rec Softball: Stouffer Corner Bistro d. KCECH Swingers (13-3)
Co-Rec Softball: Fisher/Riepe Knights d. Stouffer Corner Bistro (11-3)

I think that's about it. All our upcoming games are listed below so please do your best to come out and support the unstoppable freight train that we like to call Stouffer Intramurals.
